Feature/Feature Pack Activation Instructions
These instructions guide
you through the process of enabling a Premium Feature for your Storage
Array.
How do I enable a premium feature?
You need a Premium
Feature Key file to enable a premium feature.
- Verify that your
storage array and server are connected and powered up.
- Go to http://partnerspfk.netapp.com/ to download the
Premium Feature Key file.
- Enter the Feature
Activation Code, Serial Number, and Feature Enable Identifier in the
designated fields. Optionally, you can provide your email address to
have the Premium Feature Key file emailed to you.
- Verify that the Activate
Premium Feature option is selected.
- Click Submit.
- Click the link that
appears. The file is downloaded.
- Save and open the
file.
- Use the Premium
Feature Key with your management software to enable the Premium
Feature.

Where can I find the Feature Activation Code?
The Feature Activation
Code is the 11-digit number located on the Premium Feature Activation
Card you received with your order. Please ensure that you enter the code
exactly as it appears on the card. Failure to do so could cause a
problem with the generation of a Premium Feature Key file.
Important! Keep the card in a safe place in
case you ever need the information again.
What should I do if I do not have a Premium Feature Activation
Card?
- If you purchased a
premium feature, the Premium Feature Activation Card was included in
your order. If the card was not included in your order, please contact
your NetApp sales representative.
- If you purchased a
premium feature at a later time, the card was sent to the mailing
address you provided.
- If you did not
purchase a premium feature, but now wish to order one, please contact
your NetApp sales representative.
- If you cannot locate
your card and have no other means to identify your Feature Activation
Code, contact your Customer and Technical support representative.
Where can I find the Serial Number?
The serial number is
located on the top of the unit's chassis. If you are reactivating a
premium feature, you can either pull the chassis out to view the serial
number, or access the Storage Array Profile to view the serial number
information displayed on the Controllers tab. To access the Storage
Array Profile:
Simplicity Storage
Manager:
- From the Summary
tab click the Storage Array Profile task link to display the
Storage Array Profile dialog, then either search or scroll the Controllers
tab to locate the serial number for each unit.
SANtricity Storage
Manager:
- Select Storage
Array>>View>>Profile from the main menu to display the
Storage Array Profile dialog. Then either search or scroll the Controllers
tab to locate the serial number for each unit.
Where can I find the Feature Enable Identifier?
The Feature Enable
Identifier is available from the following locations in the management
software:
Simplicity Storage
Manager:
- Select the
Tools tab then click the View/Enable Premium Features task link.
The Feature Enable Identifier is displayed at the bottom of the
View/Enable Premium Features screen.
SANtricity Storage
Manager:
- Select Storage
Array>>Premium Features.. from the main menu. The Feature Enable
Identifier is displayed in the Storage Array Information
section of the Premium Features and Feature Pack Information dialog.
Now that I have received my Premium Feature Key file, what do I
do next?
After you have received
your Premium Feature Key, you will need to enable the feature in the
management software.
Simplicity Storage Manager:
- Select the
Tools tab then click the View/Enable Premium Features task link.
The View/Enable Premium Features screen is displayed.
Note: A link to this task is also available from the Initial
Setup Tasks dialog.
- Click the
Enable a feature task link, to display the Select Feature Key File
dialog.
- Navigate to the
location of the newly download Premium Feature Key file, and select the
file to be enabled.
- Click OK to
enable the selected premium feature. The newly enabled premium feature
will be displayed under the Enabled Premium Features section.
SANtricity Storage
Manager:
- Select Storage
Array>>Premium Features.. from the main menu. The Premium Features
and Feature Pack Information dialog is displayed.
- Click Enable to
display the Select Feature Key File dialog.
- Navigate to the
location of the newly download Premium Feature Key file, and select the
file to be enabled.
- Click OK to
enable the selected premium feature. The newly enabled premium feature
will be displayed in the Premium Features list.
Why didn't I receive an email with my Premium Feature Key file?
You did not enter your
valid email address (it is optional) when you entered the Feature
Activation Code, Serial Number, and Feature Enable Identifier.
When would I need to select the Reactivate Premium Feature Key
option?
If your Premium Feature
becomes disabled for any reason, you will receive an alert that you need
to get a replacement Premium Feature Key file. Go to http://partnerspfk.netapp.com/ and select the Reactivate
Premium Feature option. You need to enter only your Serial Number and
Feature Enable Identifier, which you can find in the Storage Manager
console, as described previously. If your Serial Number is found in the
database, a new Premium Feature Key file is generated.
When trying to get a reactivate Premium Feature Key file, why
do I get an error indicating that no premium feature is associated with
the Serial Number entered?
Cancel and retry the
procedure using copy and paste. If you still receive this error:
- The Serial Number
and/or Feature Enable Identifier do not match the numbers you
originally used.
- The Feature Activation
Code, Serial Number and/or Feature Enable Identifier originally used to
activate your premium feature may have been invalid or entered
incorrectly.
- You may be attempting
to recover a Premium Feature on the wrong storage array.

support representative.
